Super Bowl Squares Bets

Some stats about those who entered the Super Bowl Squares Online Contest:
  • There were 31 participants, resulting in 155 entries.
  • The total pot is $155, so the prize per quarter is 155 ÷ 4 = $38.75.
  • The most popular choice was Patriots 7, Giants 0.
  • Only 44% of the squares were selected, meaning there were 56 unselected squares.

And two logistical issues:

  • Winning squares are based on the score at the end of the first, second, third and fourth quarters. That is, no overtime — should this be an historic game that goes into overtime, the score at the end of the fourth quarter will be used, not the score at the end of overtime. (Though since we're playing with funny money, anyway, a distinguished honorable mention will be awarded to anyone with the correct overtime digits.)
  • Should one of the scores correspond to an unselected square, the money will carry to the following quarter and be given to the next winner(s). For example, if the score at the end of the second quarter is Patriots 6, Giants 3, then the $38.75 prize for the second quarter will push to the third quarter.

Without further adieu, here's a color-coded distribution of the squares, with the numbers indicating how many people chose each square:

Good luck!
